The short answer
Start with Rita Berman's Europe travel coloring book if you want the safest first step. Rita Berman's official book overview says the travel-inspired series began in 2021 with Meine Reise durch Europa, and the Europe page frames it as a page-by-page trip. It is the cleanest starting point because it introduces the series idea before you branch into Asia or Africa.
That said, the best first book is the one you will actually color. Choose Asia if you want the most obvious variety. Choose Africa if animals, landscapes, and warm scenic subjects motivate you. Choose The Land of Little Adventures if you want whimsical villages and imaginary places instead of a continent-based route.

Start with Europe when you want a series entry point
Rita Berman's official overview says her travel-inspired tour started with Meine Reise durch Europa in 2021. The Europe page lists the German edition at 20 x 20 cm, about 8 x 8 inches, 96 pages, and released August 27, 2021.
That makes Europe the clearest first answer for a reader asking, "Where do I begin?" You are not choosing it because the paper has been proven easier or because every page is simple. You are choosing it because it is the first travel-series step and a broad travel concept.
Start with Europe if you:
- Want to follow the series in a natural order.
- Like streets, buildings, destinations, and page-by-page travel.
- Prefer a familiar travel idea before choosing more specific scenery.
Skip Europe first if you:
- Already know you want animals, desert, mountains, beaches, or dramatic landscape shifts.
- Want the broadest motif variety from the official subject descriptions.
- Prefer a newer series volume.
Choose Asia first when variety matters most
Rita Berman's official Asia page lists the German edition at 20 x 20 cm, 96 pages, and released August 26, 2022. The page names Japan, cherry blossom season, traditional food, Mount Fuji, the Gobi Desert, India, the Great Wall of China, Samarkand bazaars, Vietnam beaches, and the Trans-Siberian Railway.
That source list points to a wide range of coloring situations. A reader could move from flowers to mountain shadows, desert warmth, food detail, market pattern, beach color, and train travel. If your biggest risk is boredom, Asia may be a stronger first book than Europe.
Start with Asia if you:
- Want many palette changes.
- Like architecture, travel objects, food, landscape, and decorative detail together.
- Enjoy switching color plans rather than staying with one mood.
Skip Asia first if you:
- Prefer one clean series starting point.
- Feel overwhelmed by frequent scene changes.
- Want more animal and landscape emphasis.
Choose Africa first when animals and landscapes pull you in
Rita Berman's official Africa page lists the German edition at 20 x 20 cm, 96 pages, and released September 29, 2023. The page describes pyramids of Egypt, Tanzania nature parks, the Cape of Good Hope, the Sahara, Morocco's bazaars, elephants, hippos, penguins, Madagascar, flora, animals, art, culture, and architecture.
This is the strongest first pick if those subjects make you excited before you even open the book. Motivation matters in detailed adult coloring. If you want to practice sand, stone, sky, foliage, ocean, animal forms, market colors, and architecture, Africa gives you the most direct reason to start there.
Start with Africa if you:
- Like animals and landscapes mixed with travel.
- Enjoy warm palettes, earth colors, ocean accents, and architectural detail.
- Want a book that connects to texture practice.
Skip Africa first if you:
- Want to begin at the start of the travel series.
- Prefer European cities or Asia's broader motif switching.
- Want a quieter imaginary-village feel.
Where The Land of Little Adventures fits
The Land of Little Adventures is adjacent, not the same decision. Rita Berman's official page for Das Land der kleinen Abenteuer calls it a whimsical-stories coloring book, lists 80 pages, a 22.5 x 22.5 cm format, and an October 14, 2025 release for the German edition. The page describes cozy villages, busy cities, landscapes, inhabitants, notes, and recipes.
Choose it first if you want an invented world and storybook energy. Do not choose it as your first travel-series book if your main goal is Europe versus Asia versus Africa.
Beginner note
None of these should be called beginner-tested until physical spreads are evaluated. A 96-page square format tells you something about size, but not enough about line density, page-turning, paper texture, or fatigue.
If you are newer to detailed coloring, start with colored pencils and choose one small area of a page: one doorway, one tree, one sky, one animal, one market stall, or one food detail. Finish that area before deciding whether to continue the page.
Bottom line
Start with Europe for the cleanest series entry. Start with Asia for variety. Start with Africa for animals, landscapes, and atmosphere. Start with The Land of Little Adventures only if imaginary travel sounds more appealing than a continent-based coloring route.
